Prof. J.J. Sandra Kooij, MD is a psychiatrist and professor of Adult ADHD at Amsterdam University Medical Center/VUmc in the Netherlands. In 2002, she started a specialized department for adult patients with ADHD and the Dutch Expertise Center for adult ADHD at PsyQ, the Hague, where she still works. She is involved in patient care, research, and education. She gives lectures and publishes books and research papers, as well as webinars and podcasts. Her research focuses on ADHD in women, ADHD in the elderly, and ADHD, sleep, inflammation, and health.

She is also:

  • Head of the Dutch Expertise Center Adult ADHD at PsyQ
  • Author of several books on Adult ADHD. In English: Adult ADHD. Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment, at Springer
  • Founder and president of the DIVA Foundation that distributes the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults (DIVA-5) in > 30 languages
  • Chair of the European Network Adult ADHD that unites clinicians and researchers on adult ADHD in Europe and beyond
  • Chair of the section of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at EPA
  • Initiated the ADHD Powerbank in 2024, together with Dr. Dora Wynchank, an online educational video platform on ADHD for patients and professionals.
  • Cofounder in 2023 of the Head Heart Hormones Network on women with ADHD, hormonal fluctuations, and health, together with cardiologist Janneke Wittekoek and gynecologist Dorenda van Dijken
